Paulista (Pernambuco – PE)
Within the structure of Olinda , before the Republic, Paulista was a small town with two communities: Paratibe and Maranguape.
Nowadays the town has a large Industrial Park, but precisely in Paratibe. Besides the industrial activities Paulista also stands out for its tourist trend.
Its monuments, churches, “o Forte de Pau Amarelo” and “Casa Grande” arouse the curiosity and amaze brazilian and foreign visitors.
The coastline enchants the tourists for the beauty of its landscape, coconut trees, beaches, warm and calm waters, which are perfect for a relaxing and invigorating sea bath, tours by catamarans and many other water sports.
One of the brazilian largest water parks is on Maria Farinha Beach, it is called Veneza Water Park and moves a great number of visitors who enjoy enthusiastically its many attractions.
São José Cemetery is located in the suburban area of the city, on a lane that leads to Maria Farinha Beach, on Petrolina Street, near the highway PE-015. Its steep topography groups simple tombs since the beginning of the 20th Century. It is administered by the Municipality of Paulista.
Among the illustrious personalities buried at São José Cemetery, we point out the mayors: Cunha Primo, colonel Acácio, José Veiga and Manuel Gonçalves da Silva.
The Bride Tomb became the most visited monument by the local community, this is because the girl died on her wedding-day. People ornament it frequently with white flowers. Also in this Cemetery we can find a few tombs whose epitaphs are written in English as there are many immigrants in the region who worked for the Lundgren family.
Cemetery is a cultural institution of the Western society. The preservation of its heritage is one way to legitimize it, as well as artistics and cultural activities carried on in situ.
